Robert was a truly fine Southern gentleman from North Carolina. He often called the lady shooters by, Miss in front of their names. He dressed the part of a Western preacher all in black. Robert was a great PR man for the OFDA, answering questions the spectators had at the contests.
Robert’s mother, Gertrude Isaac, would travel with him. She played his navigator, and they often stopped along the way to site see. Many of the shooters got to know her as well, and adopted her Momma, or Grandma.
Robert’s grandson Robbie Barlow, had an interest in Robert’s sport, and started shooting with him when he was 13. Robbie had a great talent for fast draw. Travel with Robert to many contests.
Robert served as OFDA Southern secretary for many years. He was always open to lending a hand where ever needed. He was always very willing to help a new shooter when he could. Robert wasn’t a record shooter, but shoot with accuracy.
Robert also was a very talented wood worker. He would make Dulcimers and often had a booth at Annie Oakley Days.
Before his death in 2010 he was security manager at Broyhill Furniture, and an Avery Deputy Sheriff.
Robert was a US Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran.
