The Ohio Fast Draw Association (OFDA) is the oldest sanctioning association of the fastest timed sport in the world, the sport of Western Fast Draw. The OFDA was founded in 1960 and has been active ever since.
The OFDA is the home association to many of the oldest Fast Draw Clubs in existence such as the Illinois Colts, the Banshees, the Gator Gunfighters, the Shawnee Bandits and the Buckeye Rangers. At this present time the OFDA consists of three separate regions covering the entire United States. The Northern Region covers states east of the Mississippi River and north of the Tennessee-Kentucky border. The Southern region covers the states below the Kentucky-Tennessee border and east of the Mississippi River. The Western Region covers all states west of the Mississippi River. With more than 40 sanctioned contests every year, the OFDA continues to be the most active association in the sport of Western Fast Draw in the world.
Western Fast Draw, as I stated earlier, is the fastest timed sport in the world. I guess you could say that it’s kind of like drag racing with single action revolvers. The sport is a safe one and has been around for some fifty years. During this lengthy time period, to my knowledge and according to records there have been no major accidents or injuries to any participant or spectator attending a Fast Draw event. The reason for this excellent safety record is because of the strict safety rules that we follow. I guess now would be as good a time as any to make the following statement for those of you that might not know better. Fast Draw is a very safe sport when practiced properly while following established safety rules.
No live ammunition is ever allowed near a Fast Draw contest by any participant or their families. Now that this has been made clear, we can move along. We use only wax bullets powered by a shotshell primer, no powder, or full powder blanks. All wax events are fired at a stationary steel target and all blank events are fired at a balloon target. Each shot is timed to the 1/1000th of a second and then all of the times are added together and the persons with the lowest cumulative times are the winners.
The mission of this OFDA website is to promote the sport of Western Fast Draw as a safe, fun and wholesome family sport. It also serves to promote and support our Second Amendment rights that allow us, as Americans, to participate in a shooting sport such as this. This website is dedicated to the Fast Draw pioneers such as E. W. “Red” Jordan, Jim “Pop” Frysinger, Marty Bloom, Jerry Booher and the many more that made great contributions to the OFDA and to the sport of Western Fast Draw as well. Their memory and contributions to the sport will not be forgotten.
