OFTC Chairman Report

Well, it’s mid-year already. AO Days has come and gone, it was a great weekend. I want to thank all hosts for their time and hard work. Our contests are well run and a lot of fun.
Some shooters make shooting low thirties easy, but it sure isn’t. Skill and hard work has produced many great thumbers in our sport. Congratulations to them.
As Chairman, I would not dictate to a host what target they want to use, but I wish we would use the Ohio target instead of the Blocker target as the target of choice. I believe the Ohio target would better level the playing field. Each shooter approaches the sport with a different agenda; to some, speed is the ultimate goal, to others, accuracy is the objective. The events and targets should reflect this diversity.
We have an awful lot of great people in this sport and I’m proud to know them. Tom

OFDA Chairman’s Report

Hi Fellow Shooters!
OFDA seems to be on an upward swing. There are more contests than ever thanks to the new Southern Region. We have over 100 members, the most since I have been in the organization.
All the contests seem to be well organized and a lot of hard work is done by the clubs to make the shooters comfortable. Everyone seems to be having fun shooting, and that is the idea.
Although dates for contest have been set in time for most contests, many brochures have been late. Brochures with all the information have to be to the Chairman and Secretary 60 days prior to the contest, and to the membership 30 days prior to the contest. Start now to plan your contest for 2004.
Western wear is mandatory—our dress code is important to the image of our organization and sport. Polyester shirts and loafers are not western wear. Hopalong Cassidy and stars of his era should be our models for clothing. Most discount and farm stores sell western clothes at a very reasonable cost. Check them out. I’m going to buy a new cowboy shirt for the next shoot, how about the rest of you?
Hope to see all 100 members at the next contest.
Harry B.

EDITOR’S TIME

Red’s shoot was a very successful one, and Congratulations to Smitty and Susie, who took the contest both days, and walked away with the Georgia State Championship! Susie was a heavy hitter both days of the contest, and Smitty was a heavy hitter on Sunday. Looks like Smitty ‘s twenty-year plan are coming together.
Gene Autry Days was a great shoot! Due in part to our host: The Lawman Gunfighter, and his side kick- Nola. They put on a great contest, and made it a good time for all of us. Congratulations to Howard and Mindy who won the contest, both days. Mindy was a heavy hitter on Saturday, and Howard a heavy hitter both days of the contest. We are all looking forwards to the shoot next year!
The Banshees fun shoot was a successful one. Everyone had a great time! Thank you to our hosts Dale and Susie. Let’s do it again, next year!
Bart and Bev Stack held a very enjoyable contest. The plaques were very creative. And we all had a great time. This is another contest to look forwards to next year!
Annie Oakley Days was huge success. And there was a big turnout of shooters. It was great to see everyone. Two new women shooters joined us, and in total there were fifteen women.
See everyone at the next contest. Which will be Jethro’s Aug. 23 & 24, held at Hall’s in TN.

THE SPORTMAN’S PRAYER

In the battles that goes thru life, I ask but a field that is fair.
A chance that is equal with all my strife. A courage to strive and to dare.
And if I should win, let it be by the code, with my faith and my honor held high.
And if I should lose, let me stand by the road, and cheer as the winners go by.
